Saturday / day 1
arket day and Lake Matemale
Saturday is market day in Formiguères and is an ideal way to fully immerse yourself into French life and sample the local produce of the Capcir Valley. Then sit in one of the bars in the village centre and watch the world pass by. In the afternoon you can visit the local lake at Matemale, where you can go for a gentle bike ride, walk around the lake, hire a boat for some sailing, even go windsurfing or just relax in the lake side café.

The region is rich in numerous canyons of various levels of difficulty. You will descend the picturesque gorges with a mixture of swimming, abseiling, jumps, and slides.

Monday / day 3
Mountain biking and Yellow Train - €50

Get prepared to lose over 1200m of altitude with a 22km descent! The ride, totaling 34km, starts at the Station of Mont Louis, we will climb (gradually) up to the Col de la Llose (1861m) and then take to the cross country ski runs to the high point of 1921m. Here starts the amazing 22km descent over mixed terrain to Olette, where we catch the famous Little Yellow Train back to Mont Louis.

All equipment is provided. After a brief training session with a member of staff, you are let loose on a range of courses varying in difficulty from Green through to Purple for the advanced climbers! An afternoon relaxing by the lake is then suggested where there is windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, archery, swimming, horse riding and even mini golf available.

Wednesday / day 5
Walk in the high Pyrenees

The diversity of terrain in the Pyrenees makes it an ideal destination for walkers. There are routes challenging enough for the fitter and more ambitious, as well as easier routes for the less capable. The Pyrenees challenge and invite rather than intimidate, and the wide variety of routes to choose from ensures something for everyone.

Thursday / day 6
Climbing / Bouldering - from €25

For those interested in Bouldering then a day spent at Chaos de Targasonne is a must. This is a vast boulder field with nearly 500 blocks and over 4000 problems to solve it is only bettered by the blocks at Fontainebleau.
Click here for further details of bouldering at Targasonne.
Climbers will be impressed by the huge variety of climbs available close to La Dressere with routes from 4B to 7B+ all nearby, so there is something for novice and serious climbers alike.

Friday / day 7
Rafting - from €28 and Hydrospeeding - from €28

This is a truly exhilarating day full of excitement and thrills, an amazing day to end your activities week. The drive down Aude Valley to Axat is only the start of the fun, this valley is a regular on the Tour de France and is a classic route with multiple hairpin bends and overhanging rock ledges where the road has been cut out!
You will take a 7km descent (can be extended to 14km) down the Grade 4 rapids of the picturesque Aude valley in the white water rafts and then for the more adventurous of you take to the same river on the Hydrospeeds. The hydrospeed is the foam float that you hold with your hands whilst resting on your elbows and with the aid of flippers you can conquer the rapids. These are very maneuverable and you will quickly be slaloming between the rocks and surfing the waves.
Click here for further details on Rafting and Hyrdospeeding.

Saturday / day 8
Departure Day or stay for another week

There will be so much that you haven't had time to experience with one week in the mountains. You might want to take a bit longer with your itinerary spacing out the more active entertainment with sightseeing or just relaxing. Alternatively you could continue the full-on sports activities with via ferrata, horse riding, parapenting, caving, challenging walks possibly combined with a night in a refuge. Families with younger children might enjoy an easier kind of walk in the company of a donkey; you can hire them in a village nearby and complete a circuit of walks staying in the gîte each night. If a week in the mountains is enough for you we are ideally placed for a two centre holiday, the first or second week spent by the sea. The Mediterranean coast is only an hour and a half away and we can personally recommend the following hotel and campsites:-

Campsite for Tents, Caravans and Mobile Homes situated between Argeles and Port Argeles - excellent pool with lots of water slides, beach a short walk away.

Campsite with Mobile Homes only in Le Racou, quieter than Argeles nice pool and short walk to beach and excellent restaurants.

HOTEL in a quiet part of Argeles, recommended by several of our guests
Hotel Le Cottage
